The Key to Fostering Meaningful Connections

On March 6th, 2020 (almost exactly 1 year ago), I released a video about my mental health journey. I was very open about how I got there and how therapy saved me from my grief. It resonated with people enough to reach out and share their own mental health struggles.

It helped me realize that many of us experience similar struggles. It’s more likely than not that when we choose to be vulnerable and share our experiences, we can build a support system and overcome the obstacles together.

My mission since then has been to be open and vulnerable as a way to help people live a more intentional life around their values, purpose, and mental health. As a creator, I continue to spark conversations on these topics that people may not be comfortable with and even host workshops to dig deeper into them.

It hasn’t been an easy road

After nearly a year of sharing the same messages I believe in, only recently have I found my audience reaching out and telling me they’re resonating with living by their values and mental health. I’ll admit, it’s been a tough journey so far. For a long time, I felt like I was speaking to an empty room. I kept going in hopes that sooner or later it’ll reach people when the time was right.

When you are mission-driven, you’ll do whatever it takes to work towards it. I kept trying to share the same messages in new ways. At times, I was struggling to continue and honestly felt alone in my endeavors.

Finally, at the start of 2021, I joined a few communities that opened new doors to meet fellow mission-driven creators. I found that mission-driven creators don’t need to work alongside others with the exact mission as theirs.

Mission-driven creators are willing to connect with one another through vulnerability, accountability, support, and shared values.

There’s power in Fostering vulnerability

It’s not just a theory! I’ve seen it in action!

I recently completed a month-long course hosted by Khe Hy, Supercharge Your Productivity (SYP). It was marketed to be just a productivity course, but it was so much more! During every lecture, Khe would share very personal stories about how his struggles shaped his pursuit for productivity and achievement.

His vulnerability blew me away! By the end of the month, we not only learned the skills and mindsets on how to be productive, but we also were able to ask ourselves (and answer) why we wanted to be.

It’s safe to say that the majority of the people who attended SYP’s 6th cohort got way more value than what they signed up for. They now have the foundation to be more intentional about where they focus their time, energy, and mental capacity.

When we genuinely understand what our true intentions are, we can be more confident with our priorities and goals.

Khe’s vulnerability reconfirms my process of sharing my mental health journey. It’s how people from all over the world can come together and quickly build trust.

Building the community I’ve been searching for

As someone who used to hate writing, I’ve written way more than I’ve ever done in my life and am finally enjoying the process. I couldn’t have done this without working towards my mission to guide people to live based on their values, purpose, and mental health.

If you’re a creator, builder, or entrepreneur driven by a mission, just know that you’re not alone.

You’re intentionally putting your time, energy, and mental capacity towards something you believe in.

You’re probably doing work that you never thought you’d be doing.

Hell, you probably have put yourself out there more than you’d like because you knew it could add value to the people you’re trying to help.
